Question for you…?

Since my sister-in-laws ultrasound I have been thinking about a lot of different things and I just had a question to pose to you all. Ultrasounds—for you and your significant other…or for the whole family? Specifically the one where you find out the sex of the baby? I want to hear your opinions! And since I am asking, I think it’s only fair that I tell you mine.

My sister in law invited everyone—mother, aunts, brothers, cousins, in laws. I went because I was invited and I had never seen a live ultrasound before. But for me personally, I feel it’s more of a husband/wife event and something that you share with the rest of the family later. Also I may or may not have a very romanticized view of the way I want things to go. But, that is typical for me. Of course, I hold the right to change my opinion when I am actually pregnant!

But like I said, tell me what you did or what you think!

Very personal, husband and wife only...
but remember that you are now in a very different country with a very different view of family, sharing and life in general!

I have to say that even though I am a Brazilian.... This wouldn't work for Paulo and I. I think it is husband and wife thing.... I took me 6 weeks to tell my parents I was pregnant ; )

For me I wanted just me and my husband only there for anything regarding the pregnancy and birth.

By the third child, I had friends in the room for the birth! No less special, just not the 'first' time and I was more comfortable with everything that was going on.

To each his own. One thing I have realized as I get older, is that people dance to their own music!

I wonder how many people the hospital will let in when she delivers?? LOL :-) I think it is a really special time between husband and wife only, but many of my friends did have their mom present during the delivery part.

I agree with you, but to each his own I guess :)

For mine I had my husband and mom come, but I have never heard of more than just husband and parents. I actually think I remember my OB telling me that I could invite people because the ultrasound is really detailed. Most delivery rooms here (at least in BH) have a limit of who can come to the birth (not the whole contraction-time [that you do on your own], just the actual popping out of baby). I think at my hospital it was only one, but most limit it at 2. We also had to pay a small fee for my husband to be in the delivery room.

I am with you, Chris was with me and that was it. But I would definitely invite my mom if she wanted to come. She lives so far away, it isn't really that convenient. I definitely wouldn't want that many people there... plus they wouldn't fit in the room, my Dr's exam rooms are small!

I think it's more of a personal thing so I'd only want my husband there.

I think it should be just between the husband/wife...I went with my daughter because she wasn't involved with the father, but I definitely don't think the whole kit and kaboodle should attend this.

You're talking to someone whose labor/delivery room was full of aunts, friends, and grandparents for the birth of our first son! I have to say, though, that my opinion changed after what we went through with Angelo (our T13 baby). Those 20 week ultrasounds aren't only to find out the gender of the baby; they're also to make sure baby is healthy. I am so glad it was only me and Kevin there the day we found out there was something drastically wrong with our baby. I am now a huge proponent of husband-wife only.

We took my MIL and my father to one of ours - of course, they both live in the USA, so it was kind of a one time thing and the only way they would get to see their grandson for a while, so it was important. I cannot recall if it was an intervaginal one at that point, which I suppose would be a bit awkward, but whatever. I do remember my MIL stating in English that the baby's pinto was bigger than my husband's for all to hear, which as pretty funny. Apparently she had said it in English so the tech doing the ultrasound wouldn't understand, but forgot that my father, my husband and me would. Funny bilingual slip ups.
