Driven to Distraction…

I love getting my nails done here in Brazil. While I don’t do it as often as I should, mainly because I’m lazy and it takes the better part of two hours, it is definitely an experience. Here I get my hands and feet done for 10 reais…or about $6 give or take. Usually I’m pretty boring. I like french manicures. It’s simple, it’s safe, it goes with everything. Today I got a little crazy and told the girl to do whatever she wanted.

And she did just that.

I got hot pink, decorated with flowers, topped off with a healthy coat of color glitter, and toes to match! I have a hard time not looking at them, they are the busiest thing in the room! I feel so very…Brazilian. Though maybe I should say Minera…or Ipatingian…Is it just here? Everyone seems to have VERY busy fingers here. Here More is More. And Less is Less. Though I must say I am impressed with her hand painting with her teeny tiny paint brush! I think though next time I’ll stick with my boring french manicure…I’m so easily distracted….

I love the flowers, but I understand about a french manicure. I too would be staring at my nails all the time with flowers and glitter on them!

You sound so at home now; almost Brazilian!! So proud of you.

Funny, I just had mine nails done today too and French manicure! I have done the flowers too, but I agree, too busy. The woman next to me got flowers on only her big toes. It was just the right amount.

My mom once had a talented mancurist here paint Brazilian flags on her nails (feet too!!) It was amazing, even had little white stars for inside the blue globe!

I love pedicures, but have never had the "busy" kind yet. You´re braver than me.. :)

Here in Rio red seems to be pretty popular, and recently, soft white (on the whole nail). Haven't seen the nails so decked out, but very cute. The price of the nails here makes it easy to be much more high maintenance than I was in the US though you are getting an even better deal there! I'm with fire engine red nails and toes :)

Wow - normally I don't care for busy nails, but those are like itty-bitty detailed pieces of art! Amazing!! :)

I like it, they look great! I usually tend to stick to the plain french tip too but it's nice to try something out of the norm every now & then.

So pretty! Cheap (and good) manicures are one thing Brazil is awesome for!

I think those are gorgeous! Maybe I'm part Brazilian. :)

Nope, it's all of Brazil.

And DUDE, how I miss a Brazilian manicure. I had one done here in the States recently and was like ... that's it?! I paid three times as much and you didn't even remove the cuticles or clean up the nail polish around the nail beds?!

Enjoy it, lady.

I always do that when I get my nails done. I mean to say that I can't stop looking at them. How fun! I love that you were adventurous!

Sigh, I miss pedicures. I've always had a beautiful set of toenails until I had two kids and now I just can't find the time. My toes are, in a word: gnarly. I have nail envy!

R$10??? That's incredibly cheap, even for Brazil! In Rio, mao e pe is about R$15-20... Which is already crazy cheap. And were you shocked as I was at the method the ladies use to apply said nail polish? First, slop it all over everywhere, later, remove with pointed wooden stick, cotton and nail polish remover. Seems like that's the long way around... Anyway, your nails look beautiful... good for a change once in a while. But hey, who am I to say? I'm a french manicure girl myself... In Rio I don't see a lot of crazy nails either... mostly a whitish colour or some version of red. :D

Hi! I found your blog from another Brazilian blogger. I too lived in Brazil just last year actually, until we moved back to the states? Did you marry a Brazilian? What area do you live in? I married a brazilian, and we lived in Brazil for a year and a half before moving back to CO. When did you move there? I LOVE the nails and SOOOOOO miss getting cheap and fun pampering. :) I don't think I'll ever be able to get a mani-pedi here again with them being so expensive and boring. :) Enjoy Brazil....I miss it everyday. My blog is http://mybrazilianlife-michele.blogspot.com I'd love to hear more about you and your life!!

HA!!! In Sâo Paulo the prices are a bit higher (like R$40,00 for mani/pedi). Down here, people like colored nail polished, but I hardly use them. I have my nails done almost every week, but I stick with colors like: Renda, Estrela do Mar and Maritima. For me, the perfect combination is: one coat of Renda and one coat of Maritima. It is perfect ; )
